ProAssurance Departments Summary

Accounting*

Performs financial reporting and cash processing; prepares all financial reports for distribution to stockholders and regulatory bodies. Also records insureds’ payments and pays all general invoices.

Actuarial*

Analyzes claims trends to determine rates charged and the amounts required for future claims payment; performs statistical and financial analysis for various purposes, including reinsurance negotiation, regulatory agency requirements and evaluating potential mergers/acquisitions.

Claims

Focuses on litigation management of professional liability law suits; manages all aspects of the litigation process and works with defense attorneys, expert witnesses and the judicial system to resolve suits – either through trial or reasonable settlement.

Corporate Communications*

Responsible for all communications with the investment community and the media; serves as an interface between the senior leadership of the companies and the public, as well as insurance rating organizations.

Human Resources

Facilitates payroll, compensation and benefits; provides staffing services, training and educational opportunities; researches and implements reward systems; and strives to ensure a safe and productive work environment.

Information Systems*

Provides the infrastructure, applications and technical guidance needed to support company growth, efficiency, cost savings and decision support.

Legal*

Provides internal legal support, service and advice for all departments; communicates with state regulators to ensure compliance with state laws; reviews contracts, policy forms and corporate communications; manages corporate litigation; and more.

Risk Management

Conducts office and hospital assessments and creates programs, seminars and newsletters to help insureds reduce risk exposure in their practice. Also provides invaluable telephone access for insureds.

Sales & Marketing

Represents and sells products both directly and with independent agents. Works internally and externally to create/communicate the companies’ market positions/messages.

Underwriting

Analyzes insurance applicants to determine insurability and premium pricing; works with clients, agents and sales reps on risk selection/classification in concert with each state’s regulations.

Clerical Staff

Provides various levels of support for all departments.
