Risk Assessments

Medical Practice Site Survey

Your practice can benefit from a Medical Practice Site Survey (MPSS), an on-site risk assessment for the purpose of enhancing patient safety and helping reduce risk in your medical practice. Insureds can request a confidential on-site risk assessment to help identify opportunities for improvement. A Risk Resource Advisor will guide you through the process and offer sound advice.

Helping You Mitigate Risk

Highly trained advisors evaluate your practice’s potential risk. The assessment includes a review of policies, procedures, and current processes. MPSS is a value-added service, available to insureds at no additional cost.

The assessment addresses:

  • An overview of your medical practice
  • A tour of your practice
  • Employee records, training, and licensure
  • Staff and physician competency/credentialing review
  • Office administration—scheduling, special accommodations, collections, patient termination, and complaints/incidents
  • Tracking procedures—diagnostic tests, patient appointments, physician communication, and routine check-ups
  • Patient services in specific patient populations (i.e. Geriatrics, Pediatrics, etc.)
  • Office procedures and surgery—including sedation/anesthesia
  • Medication administration
  • Communication protocol—phone calls and staff training
  • Medical devices—emergency equipment, training, and testing
  • Medical records and electronic communication—patient information and risk management
  • Document review and checklists—release forms, policies, patient communication, organization, documentation, informed consent, injections, and controlled substances

An advisor will discuss these topics with your practice administrator and office staff. You are encouraged to take part and provide input about your practice. At the conclusion of the assessment, preliminary findings will be discussed, with a written report to follow.

Providing Sound Advice

Improving Your Practice from the Inside

The practice culture is a crucial element in patient safety. A safety culture survey of your medical practice can help you pinpoint opportunities for improvement, areas of high achievement, and potential for culture change. The survey is conducted electronically.

Culture surveys may assess patient safety and quality issues, teamwork, work pressure and pace, and more.

Based on the survey results, your Risk Resource Advisor will offer suggestions and outline steps for further improvement. The results are compiled and analyzed in a report provided to your practice. Findings may be presented to practice leadership to provide direction on enhancing a robust patient safety program.

Additional Training and Risk Resources

Office training is available on various risk topics, such as documentation basics, effective patient relationships, and social media risks in your physician practice.

To enhance patient care and reduce the likelihood of claims, cutting-edge loss prevention and education programs are provided with your medical professional liability policy.

Resources are available in the Secure Services Portal (SSP) with sample forms, online education, and more.

Your practice needs are unique. Risk Resource Advisors tailor their professional liability insurance recommendations to what’s most important to you.
